***Needle-Felted Angel***

Needle-felted Angel
My mom loves angels, so it just wouldn't be Christmas without giving her an angel. This year I made her this needle-felted angel.

***Tea Cozy***

Tea Cozy & Tea Pot
Wet-felted tea cozy with needle-felted cardinals and teapot.

Teapot
I found this cute teapot to give as a Christmas gift to my son's mother-in-law. She loves cardinals so, of course, I had to make a felted tea cozy with red cardinals.

To make the tea cozy I used the same resist process as seen in my felted vase blog post:

http://lisasfeltedart.blogspot.com/2013/03/felted-vase.html

After making the felted cozy, I added a handle on top using wet-felted wool. Once the cozy was dry, I needle-felted a red cardinal on each side.

There is nothing like a tea cozy to keep your pot of tea nice and warm. ♥

***Felted Vest***

Felted Vest
This is a wet-felted vest I made for my brother this past Christmas. As I am new to making felted clothing, I opted to create wet-felted material and sew it onto a preexisting vest.

Felted Vest
Here is a closer view. I attached the wet-felted material in a way to still utilize the buttons and the satin back on the vest.

Here is the back and a front view of the vest open.

The next step will be to make a wet-felted vest completely out of wool roving. That said, it worked very well sewing the felt I created onto the vest and it fit my brother perfectly!

***Pixie Fairy Felted Skirt***

Pixie Fairy Felted Skirt

My latest felting inspiration was this Pixie Fairy Felted Skirt for my sister-in-law for Christmas. It was my first attempt in blending felting and sewing. While it was challenging creating my own pattern, it was very fun creating this whimsical piece of felted clothing.

Front and back views. I cut out varying size triangle strips of chiffon material, hemmed the edges and then layered the pieces to be sewn onto the inside of the belt.

Natural Wood Button

I attached a natural wood button to the outside of the top of the wet felted belt but actually used a strip of Velcro sewn on the inside to attach the wrap-around skirt, which allowed for variation in sizing.

Sewn on felted vines

I used a zig-zag stitch to attach the wet felted vines with leaves.

***Felted Cat, Penguin, Top Hat, Cuffs & Scarf***

Cat - wet felted using resist

2014 was a busy year, so I haven't posted in quite a while, but I've still been having fun felting. I made this cat using a resist and the wet felting method. Adding some bent wires for whiskers gives him some character.

I had fun needle felting this cute little penguin to give my son & new daughter-in-law for a "First Christmas" decoration.

I made this felted top hat for my brother for Christmas. I think he likes it...

I made these cuffs for my sister-in-law for Christmas. It was my first attempt at nuno felting with 100% silk. It was so fun working with silk and layering the wet-felted wool to create these one-of-a-kind cuffs.

***Felted Scarves***

Nuno-felted scarf
Here is my latest nuno-felted scarf. It is a cobweb-style wet felted scarf with embellishments using silk chiffon. Below is a close-up of the silk chiffon incorporated into the felted wool.

Felted infinity scarf
I made this wet-felted scarf using several layers of wool roving and then felted the two ends together to make it an infinity scarf.

Alpaca wool cobweb scarf
This scarf was made using dyed alpaca wool roving. Alpaca wool is very soft. I used just two layers of thin pieces of the wool roving plus the decorative wool embellishments, so the scarf is also very light.

***Birdhouse***

Birdhouse
My latest creation...a birdhouse.

I made a wet-felted vessel using a resist. (See my directions for making a vessel using a resist in my March 2, 2013 ***Cat Cave*** blog post).

I then added needle-felted embellishments. Here is what the back looks like.
Now it has found its place in our backyard near the waterfall where the birds like to come and play...
I'll have to wait and see if any of the birdies make it their home. ♥ In the meantime, it makes a nice piece of felted art for the garden.

***Cat Cave - Wildflower Weed***

Wildflower Weed Cat Cave

For Christmas I made my brother and his wife this cat cave. After completing the finishing touches, I realized the flowers reminded me of "wildflowers and weeds," which just happens to be the name of their band based in Sonoma, CA. How fun is that?

I sure hope Jewel likes it. I'm waiting for them to snap a photograph of her enjoying her new cat cave so I can post it.

**********

To make this cat cave I used a piece of plastic shelf liner cut in a circle measuring 30-inches across for a resist. It took approximately 12-ounces of wool roving and the finished cave measured approximately 23-inches across. (For complete instructions on how to make a cat cave see my ***Cat Cave*** blog post dated March 2, 2013)
After the vessel dried, I added needle-felted  flowers, weeds and grass as embellishments.

The finished project...a nice place for kitty to hang out, as well as a unique piece of felted artwork.

It is fun creating felted vessels. I'm already planning my next vessel project...a birdhouse.
